The product description says flicker free but I guess that just means they cycle at a faster rate like that article said. I did use a CFL bulb just as a preliminary test and did not notice exposure variances.FoCal Pro from Reikan is purpose designed to provide a comprehensive and accurate way to focus calibrate and test most modern Canon and Nikon DSLR cameras and lenses. I came across these that you can buy on amazon, etc or your local camera store that deals lighting should have. I looked it up and 1Hz is one cycle so that is 100 or 120 cycles per second.
AMAZON REIKAN FOCAL MANUAL
The manual says flicker rates other than 100Hz or 120Hz cannot be detected. I found this which says that modern, electronically ballasted CFLs refresh themselves at between 10,000 and 40,000 cycles per second. Even if you shoot flash it is daylight balanced.įocal does not mention CFL bulbs but I figured they cycle as well. I figure if I'm going to do this I may as use a light source close to what I shoot in most of the time which is daylight. If being done in the basement then using daylight balanced light source would be preferable even if you can match a non daylight balanced using FoCal preferences? I don't know about this one or how much difference it makes. I know you can get white light bulbs but it often does not list K specs and I have not come across daylight balanced halogen lights, yet. You can set the colour temp to match in FoCal preferences but if you are doing this during the day indoors and need some extra light on the target then I think it would help to use a matched colour temp light source, or as close as you can get to it. Just browsing I have seen seen quite a few images of incandescent light sources looking quite warm. Halogen which is the same thing as incandescent is recommended. Anyone who has read the instructions is aware LED and Fluorescent lighting is not recommended due to the cycle rate.
